Today I will feature two award-winning authors last name starting with a T. These authors have a body of work that are classics, and worth revisiting and/or reading for the first time.

Day 12 of September is Black Reading Month Dancing Friday

Friday is a good day for dancing! I will feature three books that are about dancing.

Book 1: Dancing in the Wings by Debbie Allen; illustrated by Kadir Nelson. A story about a long-legged girl who is determined to prove she can be a dancer.

Book 2: Brothers of the Knight by Debbie Allen; illustrated by Kadir Nelson. A delightful story about 12 brothers who can dance their shoes off!

Book 3: Life in Motion Young Reader’s Edition by Misty Copeland. This memoir chronicles Misty’s journey to become the first African American female principal ballet dancer at the American Ballet Theatre.

Day 2 of September is Black Reading Month: Back to School Tuesday

Day 2: As children and young adults are returning to school, I think it would be a good idea to feature books about children returning to school.

Day 10 of September is Black Reading Month Wonderful Wednesday

Today’s focus is on wonderful stories with beautiful illustrations/photographs and stories with powerful messages.

Book 1: How the Unicorn Got its Horn by Calandra and Camille Gibson. Mother and daughter team up to write a powerful story on patience and being careful what you ask for.

Book 2: A classic story beautifully and written story by John Steptoe

Book 3: A contemporary twist on fairy and folk tales with beautiful photographs.

Day 3 September is Black Reading Month/Whimsical Wednesday

Today I decided to go whimsical. I found three humorous books that should have readers smiling, chuckling, and even laughing!

Book 1: Please, Baby, Please by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee. A delightful book about the antics of the cute little baby!

Book 2: Fast Sam, Cool Clyde, and Stuff by Walter Dean Myers. The late award winning Walter Dean Myers mainly wrote about African American male characters and he nailed these characters with humor and adventure. Stuff is the new kid on the block and he makes friends and get into a few mishaps–sometimes funny sometimes serious. A good read!

Book 3: An adult book, Raymond Andrews write a dark humorous story about some interesting cousins. Good read!
