Today’s two books focus on Detroit.
Book 1: The Dawn of Detroit by Tiya Miles
Book 2: Black Detroit by Herb Boyd
My visit to my local library branches was an opportunity to check out some new books. Here are the titles:
Book 1: J vs. K by Kwame Alexander and Jerry Craft. I’m excited to read this one!
Book 2: Greatness by the award-winning team Regis and Kahran Bethencourt
Book 3: The Davenports More Than This by Krystal Marquis
Today was special to me. I attended Ladarrion Williams book signing at the Detroit Public Library. I admire and respect his grit, perseverance, and writing skills. His book, Blood at the Root, is a sci-fi/fantasy book with a young black man as the man character with special skills. He rescues his foster brother and together they embark on a journey to a new and better life for themselves. But, there are some curves, twists, and turns along the journey. A good read!

These books feature/highlight on African American teachers, children, and education.
Book 1: The Dream-Keepers by Gloria Ladson-Billings. A classic and excellent read!
Book 2: Teaching to Transgress by bell hooks. Another classic and excellent read on education as liberation.
Book 3: Teaching for Black Lives edited by Dyan Watson. Another excellent read.
Sundays are for family, food, fun, and, of course church. These three books explore the traditions, food, fun, and church on Sundays.
Book 1: Soul Food Sunday by Winsome Bingham
Book 2: Sunday Dinner by Angela Shanté
Book 3: Second Sunday by Michele Andrea Bowen. I have read two of her books, Church Folks and Second Sunday. Both are humorous, delightful, and honest!
On this partly cloudy day in some cities, I am choosing sun over the clouds. The three books below have the word “sun” in the title to also be the light in our reading.
Book 1: Hello There, Sunshine by Tabitha Brown
Book 2: The award winning The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson
Book 3: Those Who Saw the Sun by Jaha Nailah Avery
